  • The Packaging Cluster has promoted these awards, which aim to become a benchmark within the sector
  • They will be awarded every year and recognise the work of companies in three categories: sustainability, strategic change and innovation.

The Packaging Cluster has taken advantage of its tenth anniversary held on 1 December at the Gallery Hotel, with more than 170 attendees, to promote awards for the work done by its members throughout the year. The awards are divided into three categories: Industry 4.0 and Innovation; Strategic Change and Growth; and Shared Value and Sustainability.

The organisation wants to make a firm commitment to these awards, which will be presented every year and which aim to become a benchmark within the sector. "Often people are not aware of all the work that goes into a change of strategy or the imposition of innovative and sustainable projects. These awards aim to recognise this effort and make these good practices known to the entire sector," explains Martina Font, president of the Packaging Cluster.

The winners of this year's edition are listed below by category:

INDUSTRIAS PLÁSTICAS TRIANA: industry 4.0 and innovation

IP Triana is a family-owned company that designs and manufactures medical devices and plastic packaging for the food, pharmaceutical and cosmetic sectors with more than 50 years of experience. The company currently has a turnover of 7 million euros and its products can be found in supermarkets and pharmacies on 5 continents.

The company aimed to promote innovation projects, but most of them were difficult to fit within its budget. However, thanks to the grants and the collaboration with the cluster itself and other partners, they were able to undertake such projects with less risk.

"Being part of the cluster has helped us a lot, especially at the beginning, to identify potential markets and customers. We have been able to develop projects that we could never have imagined thanks to collaboration and shared value," explains Aleix Triana, CEO of Industrias Plásticas Triana.

NG PLASTICS: Strategic change and growth

NG Plastics is a company that was founded in 1946 and offers plastic product design, mould design and manufacture, thermoplastic injection, part decoration (rotary offset, pad printing and screen printing) and, finally, handling.

In recent years, he has completely reoriented the company's strategy from being a small company with very fragmented customers to specialising in larger customers and larger print runs. A work he did in collaboration with the cluster, which helped him to identify trends and unify the concept of engineering, product development, mould making and product development.

"The key to our transformation is that everything is integrated under one umbrella and not as individual stages that are then added together. This is very important in the eyes of the customer, as it conveys confidence," explains Toni Borrell, CEO of NG Plastics.

QUADPACK: Shared value and sustainability

Quadpack is a global manufacturer and supplier of cosmetic packaging for beauty brands. It develops sustainable and innovative packaging for skin care, make-up and fragrances.

The cluster wanted to recognise its journey towards sustainability that began in 2012, when it moved its factory to Torelló. Since then, they realised the importance of the company within the community itself and the need to generate a business activity with a positive impact. A journey that came to fruition in April 2022, when Quadpack was recognised as a Bcorp company.

"Generosity is the value shared by the cluster and Quadpack. Without this willingness to share, it would be impossible to achieve the results. We aim to use economic activity for the long-term benefit of our communities and the environment," explains Tim Eaves, CEO and founder of Quadpack.

Honorary and founding partner recognition

In addition to the awards received by the different companies for their business work, the Packaging Cluster wanted to recognise the organisations and individuals who have been present since the organisation was founded in 2012.

Pere Castellet, former director of the Packaging Cluster, received an honorary award for his work at the head of the organisation in its early years. In addition, the founding members of the cluster were also recognised: ABB, Aranow, Grupo Carinsa, DS Smith, Enplater, Global Fruselva, Industrias Plásticas Triana, Kao Chimigraf, Centro Tecnológico Leitat, Menshen and Nestlé.
