SIGMA: Transforming industrial maintenance with generative AI in the packaging sector

The Packaging Cluster is leading a new strategic initiative: the SIGMA project  - Integration of a generative AI assistant  for the Q-PLANT MM maintenance software in production plants. This cooperative proposal aims to integrate an interactive maintenance assistant  powered by generative artificial intelligence (AI) within TAI Smart Factory's Q-Plant MM software.

The consortium, coordinated by the Packaging Cluster, has the technological participation of TAI Smart Factory and the industrial validation of the companies Witte y Solá and Rieusset, which will implement this technology in their production plants to check its operation in real environments. Dribia will collaborate as an advisor for the development of the algorithmic prototype and the Integration of the interactive maintenance assistant into the plant.

The goal: An intelligent assistant for the  operator

The central purpose of SIGMA is to provide direct, agile and intuitive support to operators and maintenance managers. Through a natural language interface  and conversational format, the system will make it easy to consult the history of incidents and access complex technical information that was previously difficult to exploit.

The project addresses critical challenges of Industry 5.0, such as the centralization of often dispersed maintenance data and interoperability between machines of different generations.

Impact on efficiency and competitiveness

SIGMA will allow a drastic reduction in  unplanned downtime and, consequently, an optimization of operating costs. This will allow industrial companies to increase their competitiveness and capacity for innovation in the market.

The project generates a multidimensional positive impact by reducing waste and improving energy efficiency, which directly contributes to cleaner, more sustainable and circular production. At the same time, it promotes social well-being by reducing the work stress of operators through intuitive support tools and by encouraging the development of key digital skills, thus increasing employability and talent retention in the sector.

The results obtained will not only be applicable to the Witte y Solá and Rieusset plants, but the solution is scalable  and replicable in other companies in the packaging sector and related sectors.

With SIGMA, the Packaging Cluster reaffirms its mission to improve the competitiveness of the packaging ecosystem through projects with a high technological and social impact.

The project, which will run until July 2026, with a total budget of €99,852.19, is partially funded with the support of ACCIÓ, within the call: Subsidies for growth and strategic change - Cluster cooperatives 2025.
